Dr. Clark Email – August 15th, 2022

MOSAIC Elementary – August 15th, 2022

Dear MOSAIC Families,

We are only one week away from the beginning of a new school year!  We are excited to see our 1st-5th grade families this week at our supply drop-off from 4:00-5:30pm on Wednesday, August 17th. Kindergarten supply drop-off will be this Thursday, August 18th from 4:00-5:00pm. This evening is for our families and students to drop-off supplies, meet their teacher and also get your row assignments for afternoon student pickup.

I also want to invite families to our PTO meeting tomorrow evening, Tuesday, August 16th beginning at 6:30pm in MOSAIC’s cafeteria. You are welcome to attend the PTO meeting in person or virtually by clicking on the link below. We hope to see you tomorrow night!

Bus Routes

Bus transportation is available for MOSAIC families, but only in the morning. All families are responsible for afternoon transportation for their child(ren). A MOSAIC student can ride the bus from their neighborhood bus stop to their home school (ex. Forder, Rogers, Wohlwend.) From their home school, students will ride a shuttle bus to MOSAIC. Beasley and Blades students will catch their shuttle bus from their home school’s parking lot. Beasley and Blades families, please be in the school’s parking lot by 8:40am. The shuttle bus should arrive between 8:45-8:50am. However, I ask for everyone who is utilizing district transportation in the morning to please be patient. Not only traffic, but construction across the district may delay bus arrival times. This will be especially true the first week of school.

Please click on the link below to find the times and locations for the bus stop near your home.

Bus stops

Stretch

The Mehlville School District’s gifted program (STRETCH) will be on Fridays this school year on the Washington Middle School campus for MOSAIC students from 9:00am-1:30pm. The first day of STRETCH will be Friday, August 26th. Students can either be dropped off at WMS or ride a shuttle bus from MOSAIC to WMS. Students who ride the bus to MOSAIC on Friday mornings can ride the shuttle bus from MOSAIC to WMS. Families can also choose to catch the shuttle bus from MOSAIC instead of dropping off their child at WMS. The shuttle bus will depart from the two parking spaces out front of the building side that faces Lemay Ferry. For the families who choose to catch the shuttle bus from MOSAIC, we ask that parents stay with their child until the STRETCH shuttle bus departs MOSAIC’s campus.

Nurse Colleen News

School Food Information

Mehlville School District offers breakfast and lunch for students each day. For the past two years, our School Food and Nutrition Services staff has been able to offer free meals to all students through a waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That waiver expired at the conclusion of last school year.

Meal prices for this school year are as follows:

Breakfast

Paid: $2.00

Reduced Price: $.30

Lunch

Paid: $3.00

Reduced: $.40

Mehlville School District participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs, which allows families to apply for free and reduced meal benefits

https://www.mehlvilleschooldistrict.com/about_us/departments/school_food___nutrition/menus

Parents can pre-pay their child’s lunch account by following the link below. Families can also send money or check in a sealed envelope with their child’s name, labeled for lunch money and the enclosed amount.

Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

MOSAIC’s arrival and dismissal procedure will remain the same as last year. For our new families joining us this school year and anyone who would like to refresh their memory can view the 2022-2023 student arrival and dismissal video by clicking on the link below.

Student Arrival and Dismissal Video

In the video, I mention each family will receive a row number for afternoon dismissal. Each family will receive their assigned row number at supply drop-off.

Carpooling

I want to encourage families to consider carpooling this school year. Carpooling reduces the amount of cars on the lot and the time it takes to dismiss.  Please fill out the carpool form listed below by Wednesday, August 17th only if you are interested in carpooling. This information will be shared in a PDF on Friday, August 19th through email to those who only filled out this document. Please contact the MOSAIC school office at 314-467-7900 as soon as possible once you make carpool arrangements with another family.

Before School and After School Care

Families can choose to utilize Y-Care as a before and after school care for their child. Hours for Y-Care are from 6:30am until the beginning of the school day and from the end of the school day until 6:00pm. Y-Care will take place in MOSAIC’s gym. The most convenient way to get to MOSAIC’s gym is to park in our front lot off Will Avenue and take the steps on the north side of the building to the gym doors. Students at MOSAIC can only attend Y-Care at MOSAIC and are not allowed to attend Y-Care in other Mehlville School District schools. You can contact Y-Care at 314-849-9622.

We will also have a local childcare provider transporting students to MOSAIC as well. Please make sure to notify your child care provider if you plan on utilizing their transportation services. Below is a list of child care providers that have committed to providing transportation to and from MOSAIC.

KinderCare – (314)892-1627 – 4105 Telegraph/Kingswood

You may want to contact your child’s daycare provider if they are not listed above. Again, this is the only provider that is committed to providing transportation for your child.

Dear Parents and Families,

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. This event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school library.

Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Hudson will be hosting the Book Fair in the library this year. Here is what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from October 11 – 13:

  • Students will have an opportunity to preview the Book Fair and create a wish list on October 8.
  • The Book Fair will be open for student shopping only. Unfortunately, families are not able to attend the Book Fair at this time.
  • Our Book Fair accepts cash or checks (made out to MOSAIC Elementary) and offers a cash-free payment option called eWallet.
  • Families are welcome to shop our school’s Virtual Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

https://www.scholastic.com/bf/mosaic

We are excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair!

Happy reading,

Dr. Clark

Principal

MOSAIC Elementary School – September 7th, 2021

Dear MOSAIC Families,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable three day holiday weekend. We enter this short week with many things to do and accomplish. The students are doing a fantastic job at school. They quickly settled into the new school year and are working hard on their daily projects. The students are currently taking district-wide benchmarks in IReady in the areas of ELA and Math. IReady provides MOSAIC teachers with detailed information about a child’s readiness around grade level specific content standards. This is just one source of data we use to personalize your child’s education at MOSAIC. We will continue to communicate our students’ performance with our families over the course of the next few weeks.

The Kindergarten students have been learning about the Zones of Regulation.  They should be able to tell you what feelings go with each color. MOSAIC’s school counselor, Ms. Blanchette has shared how amazed she is at how much they already know.  Over the next couple of weeks, they will make a new Zones poster for their classroom and learn about strategies they could use in each Zone.  First through fifth graders have been reviewing what they remember about the Zones with a fun game of Kahoot.  MOSAIC would also like to welcome Ms. Schrader to our Mosaic family.  She comes to us from St. Louis Counseling to help support our students with their social/emotional needs.

We hope you can join us this evening at 6:30pm for our September PTO meeting. You can attend the meeting either in person in MOSAIC’s cafeteria or virtually through ZOOM. Please click on this link to attend tonight’s PTO meeting virtually.

MOSAIC Shout Outs

Would you like to recognize a MOSAIC staff member, family or student? Please click on the link below to fill out a MOSAIC Shout Out form. I will read shout outs each day on morning announcements.

Attention students the MOSAIC Drama Club is looking for you! Use the Google Form to sign up if you are interested by September 15th. We would love to have students in studio 2 through 5 who are interested in acting and set building/design. Here is the link to the sign up sheet: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdee6S_LHiyNC2FYdw-mYUqAOiwZECj0s1hX8NGyGKc0uQiQA/viewform?usp=sf_link.

Thursday, September 2nd – Virtual Curriculum Night

Monday, September 6th- No School – Labor Day

Tuesday, September 7th – School Resumes

Tuesday, September 7th – PTO Meeting beginning at 6:30pm

Have a great week!

August 16, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

We are less than two weeks away from the first day of school. We are so excited to see our students and families once again! Teachers and staff have been working these past few weeks to organize their studios and prepare for the first day.

We have several events taking place over the next two weeks that we hope you can attend. PTO will host their first meeting of the year tomorrow evening beginning at 6:30pm. You can attend PTO meetings two ways this school year. Either in person in MOSAIC’s cafeteria or virtually through Zoom. You can find the meeting link for tomorrow’s PTO meeting and the 6:00pm room parent meeting below. The room parent meeting will also offer the option to attend in person or attend virtually. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide childcare during either of these meetings and in the near future for monthly PTO meetings.

We will celebrate the new school year with our incoming kindergarten families at our Kindergarten Meet and Greet this Thursday, August 19th from 6:00-7:00pm. Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, see their classroom and drop off school supplies. Students and families will not have to wear a face covering outside during the event, but will be required to wear a face covering when entering the school. Kindergarten families will also receive their row assignment for student pick-up this Thursday.

1st through 5th grade student supply drop off will be next Tuesday, August 24th from 4:00-5:30pm. Tuesday evening is a brief opportunity for students and their families to drop-off supplies and see the classroom. All visitors to the building will be required to wear a face covering upon entering the school.

A Note from Nurse Carly

I can’t believe we are already getting ready to start the 2021 school year! I hope you all had a wonderful summer.

Dr. Clark has already mentioned that we are going to be a nut-free school again this year. This means all products containing peanuts and tree-nuts will not be permissible. We are also fish free. We take student and staff safety very seriously in regards to allergies. Please be courteous and check your ingredients. If your child brings a lunch that contains nuts to school, they will be provided a school lunch.

While we continue to practice safe guided instructions from the Health Department, we will still be following last year’s health screener and using our guide to determine when to send students home from school that are symptomatic. Please look at both and use those as a guide when determining if your child can come to school. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Any medications to be administered at school require the completion of the dispensing medication form found under optional e-Forms on the parent portal. If your child has a prescription, the label acts as the doctor’s note. However, if your child has over the counter medication, I will need a note from the doctor. In addition to medication, if your child has an action plan (asthma, food allergy), please make sure that we have a new one on file for the school year.

I will be at our supply drop off for medication drop off for the year. If you cannot make that time, please make arrangements to drop off any medications before or on the first day of school. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. My phone number is 314-467-7930 and my email is [email protected]

MOSAIC Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedure along with Bus Routes

The district provides bus transportation to MOSAIC only in the morning. Students who choose to utilize district transportation will ride their neighborhood Mehlville bus to their home school (ex. Bierbaum, Forder, Rogers). From their home school, students will ride a shuttle bus to MOSAIC. Families should review the bus route information for the nearest bus stop to your home.

Below are the bus routes for each individual school:

Beasley and Blades

Students in the Beasley and Blades attendance area will catch the MOSAIC shuttle bus at their home schools. The MOSAIC shuttle bus for Blades students will arrive at Blades’ front parking lot at 8:45am. I would arrive five minutes earlier than 8:45am. Beasley students will catch the MOSAIC shuttle bus also at 8:45am in Beasley’s front parking lot. Plan to arrive a few minutes early as well.

Bierbaum Elementary

Forder Elementary

Hagemann Elementary

Oakville Elementary

Point Elementary

Rogers Elementary

Trautwein Elementary

Wohlwend Elementary

Families do have the option if they chose to drop their child off in the morning for school. Morning arrival is from 8:55-9:10am. Like in the past, families will be assigned a row (K-1 on playground lot, 2-5 on the lower lot) for student pick up in the afternoon. Kindergarten families will receive their lane placement at the kindergarten meet and greet on Thursday, August 19th. All other families will receive their row placement at supply drop off on Tuesday, August 24th.

Please view the video below for MOSAIC’s arrival and dismissal procedures.

A Message from the District

We have Mehlville merch + Setting up your ParentSquare account

Get your Mehlville merch on!

Back by popular demand, we are presenting another opportunity to order Mehlville Spiritwear. Browse our new shop for shirts, hoodies, hats, backpacks and briefcases. For every item purchased, $2 goes toward our employee recognition program for retirees, staff celebrating significant years of service, and teacher and classified employees of the year. Items purchased will be delivered to your school this fall.

 Browse Mehlville Spiritwear.

 Setting up your ParentSquare account
You may have noticed district emails and text messages — including this one! — have been coming from ParentSquare since July 1.  We made the transition from SchoolMessenger to ParentSquare this summer to improve district and school communications. Later today we will invite you to activate your account and set up your preferences. Setting your notification preferences is key to helping staff assigned to multiple schools manage how and where they receive communication. We recorded the video below to show you how to set up your account.

Please note that we are still adding and updating staff in our Student Information System and ParentSquare. We know several of our employees are associated with the wrong schools, and we are working on correcting that. While we work to resolve this, you may want to turn notifications off for schools you are no longer working at. Please watch the video for instructions.

News from School Food & Nutrition Services:

We are looking forward to seeing the students in our cafeterias. Breakfast and lunch meals are free for all students this school year due to a nationwide waiver from the USDA.  Schools will have additional items, such as bottled water students can purchase if they have adequate funds in their meal account.  Funds can be deposited in student meal accounts online through MySchoolBucks.  The cafes also accept cash or checks made payable to the Mehlville School District.  Please note, change will not be given for cash deposits. To view 2021-22 a la carte prices, click HERE.  A la carte items vary by school.

School Food & Nutrition Services has part time positions available for the upcoming school year.  If you enjoy working with kids and only want to work while your children are at school, SFNS has the job for you.  To apply, visit mehlvilleschooldistrict.com, select Employment under Quick Links and apply for the School Food and Nutrition Services Technician 3 hours.

If you have any questions, please contact the SFNS office at 467-5250.

Carpooling

I want to encourage families to consider carpooling this school year. Carpooling reduces the amount of cars on the lot and the time it takes to dismiss.  Please fill out the carpool form listed below by Thursday, August 19th only if you are interested in carpooling. This information will be shared in a PDF on Friday, August 20th through email to those who only filled out this document. Please complete the Carpool form first. Once you have identified a partner family for carpooling, please email our school secretary Mrs. Rooks at [email protected] to share carpooling information. Carpool Form

Before School and After School Care

Families can choose to utilize Y-Care as a before and after school care for your child. You can contact the YMCA at 314-849-9622.

We will also have several local childcare providers transporting students to MOSAIC as well. Please make sure to notify your child care provider if you plan on utilizing their transportation services. Below is a list of child care providers that have committed to providing transportation to and from MOSAIC.

Kinder Care – (314)892-1627 – 4105 Telegraph/Kingswood

You may want to contact your child’s daycare provider if they are not listed above. Again, this is the only provider that committed to providing transportation for your child.

PTO WEEKLY UPDATE

Joke of the week:

Parallel lines have so much in common… it’s a shame they’ll never meet.

Who are we?

A group of parent volunteers working together to enhance the learning experience of our children, provide support to the educators and staff at our school, and strengthen the bonds of our school community.

What do we do?

Have fun and fundraise to provide additional resources to the school to support the education of our children.

Who is welcome?

Everyone! Join us whenever you can! Support can take many forms and we value every one of them.

Our first PTO meeting is TOMORROW, August 17th at 6:30pm in MOSAIC’s school cafeteria. MOSAIC families can also join us virtually via Zoom at each PTO meeting this school year. Room Parent Volunteers

Studio Room Parents’ main roles are to help with the 3 studio parties (fall, winter, spring) and to serve on the Teacher Appreciation Week committee (at the beginning of May). They will also help the PTO communicate with studio parents.

The Lead Room Parent chairs the committee for studio parties and coordinates the efforts of the Studio Room Parents.

Please join us right before our General Meeting on TOMORROW, August 17 at 6pm in MOSAIC’s school cafeteria. You can also join us virtually by following this zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/95592762593. August 9, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

We are less than three weeks away from our first day of school. I hope there is an excitement building in your household for the 2021-2022 school year. Please pardon the length of this week’s email. I am providing a great deal of information that I strongly encourage our families to read through in preparation for this school year. For your convenience, I have complied a great deal of information in the 2021-2022 MOSAIC Family Handbook as well. You can find the Family Handbook attached to this email. Please take the time to read through the handbook and this week’s email. All the information you need to be prepared for the first day of school can be found in this week’s email.

New this school year, all families are required to provide the district with two proofs of residency. These documents can be uploaded in the Parent Portal. Please provide your updated documents before the first day of school. Below is a list of documents that are approved by the district to prove residency. If you need help activating or resetting you password for the Parent Portal, Mrs. Ulrich in our school office at 467-7900 will be happy to help. School Food and Nutrition Information

Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all students in the Mehlville School District for the 2021-2022 school year. Lunch menus will be available on the district’s website.

Students are also welcome to bring their own lunch. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing protocols, students will be eating breakfast and lunch in their classrooms. For the safety of our students and staff, MOSAIC will be a nut free and fish free campus this school year. Please contact Dr. Clark at 314-467-7901 or [email protected] if you have any questions regarding these food restrictions.

MOSAIC Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

The district provides bus transportation to MOSAIC only in the morning. Families are responsible for afternoon transportation. I will share bus route information with our families once our district transportation completes the information.

Before School and After School Care

Families can choose to utilize Y-Care as a before and after school care for your child.

New Staff at MOSAIC

We are welcoming several new staff members to our MOSAIC family this school year. Mrs. Kathryn Stengel will be our new 4th grade studio teacher. Mr. James Osterberg will be serving MOSAIC as one of our new art teachers. Mrs. Melissa Murar and Mrs. Katie Morris are both serving MOSAIC as academic interventionists. Please read the brief messages below from several of our new staff members.

Mrs. Kathryn Stengel (4th Grade Studio)

I am thrilled to be joining the MOSAIC team! I have 15 years of experience as an elementary teacher, assistant principal and instructional specialist. I also spent a few years at home with my two children who will be in fourth (Micah) and first (Gianna) grades this year. My husband Matt is an engineer and we live in Webster Groves. We’ve been enjoying lots of fun in the sun this summer–Cub Scout Camp (I am a den leader.), floating, baseball, hiking, and most recently, a high ropes course! I also enjoy gardening and reading. I am originally from Florissant, but have many friends and relatives in the Mehlville district. As a constructivist educator, I have had my eye on MOSAIC since its beginning. I know it is a truly exceptional place when it comes to bringing out the best in every learner and providing children with meaningful experiences to connect them to our wonderful world. I can’t wait to get started!

Ms. Katie Morris (K-2 Academic Interventionist)

Hello! My name is Katie Morris and I am so excited to be joining the MOSAIC team this year! This will be my fourth year teaching, as I have taught first grade for the past three years in Jackson, Missouri. My family is so excited to be returning to St. Louis to be closer to family and embark on this new adventure! I have two children named Harper and Miles, a wonderful husband named Andy, and two big loveable dogs named Lucy and Holly. I love to spend time outdoors hiking trails, playing the violin, watching all kinds of music, and family movie nights. I am passionate about working with children and watching them reach their highest potential. At MOSAIC, I look forward to helping our kids grow and find success in the ways that fit them best!

Mrs. Melissa Murar (3-5 Academic Interventionist)

Hi! I am Melissa Murar and this will be my 10th year teaching. I spent the last six years teaching 4th grad. Prior to that, I taught 5th – 8th graders. I am from Fayetteville, IL but currently reside in Oakville with my husband, John. We have two children – Grayson (3) and Ellie (6 months), and a golden doodle, Stanley. I love the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals, exploring independent restaurants, jogging around our neighborhood, relaxing with a good pedicure, and above all else, I love spending quality time with my children and family. I am beyond ecstatic about being an Academic Interventionist at MOSAIC and ensuring every student shines at their brightest potential.

The parent/guardian may request a refund or transfer by emailing [email protected]  Refunds will be issued by check from the Mehlville School District. In an effort to address some questions that have come up regarding Chromebooks over the summer:

  • Please make every attempt to identify those students that may not be returning to the district this summer or next fall so that their device can be collected.
  • Over the summer, please inform families leaving the district they may also drop off their device at the IT office in the back of the Witzel Building at 3100 Lemay Ferry Rd. 63125
  • During the summer, our help email address: [email protected] will continue to be monitored to serve students and families.
  • Please remind students over the summer to store or use their devices in a safe place where they will not be crushed or exposed to liquids (the number 1 reason for breakage)

As a reminder, only Senior Chromebooks will be collected at the end of this school year. All other students will keep their devices over the summer.

March 8, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and took time to enjoy the beautiful weather. The weather the next few days looks very promising as well. We will get rain later in the week, but we will make sure to get our students outside for recess to burn off some winter energy.

Our 3rd through 5th grade MOSAIC@Home families received an email from our district to select a date/time to take the upcoming MAP test this Spring. I am asking our MOSAIC@Home families pause from filling out this form. We are in the process of scheduling MAP testing for our MOSAIC students, both in person and virtual students. More information about MAP testing will be shared in the upcoming weeks. Thanks for your patience.

We would like to invite our MOSAIC families to join us tomorrow evening at 6pm for our monthly PTO meeting. Mrs. Bradley, Ms. Lazzara and Mrs. Werner will be presenting on the exciting learning opportunities students are experiencing in their studios. Attendees will also participate in an activity to share ideas about future plans for our school and PTO. You do not want to miss this meeting!

Register to vote by March 10 to participate in the April election

Mehlville School District residents have an important item on the April 6, 2021, ballot.  The district is asking voters for a zero tax rate increase bond issue, called Prop S. If passed, Prop S would fund facility projects that improve student safety, and address critical infrastructure needs like restroom renovations, ADA accessibility, and HVAC and roofing replacements without raising the tax rate.

Parents and other residents are encouraged to learn more about Prop S and to vote. If you aren’t already registered to vote, the deadline to register is Wednesday, March 10, 2021. The Missouri Secretary of State’s website has several options to register to vote:

Who can vote?

To register to vote in Missouri, you must be:

  • At least 17 ½ years of age (but you must be 18 by the day of the election to vote)
  • A U.S. Citizen
