August 16, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

We are less than two weeks away from the first day of school. We are so excited to see our students and families once again! Teachers and staff have been working these past few weeks to organize their studios and prepare for the first day.

We have several events taking place over the next two weeks that we hope you can attend. PTO will host their first meeting of the year tomorrow evening beginning at 6:30pm. You can attend PTO meetings two ways this school year. Either in person in MOSAIC’s cafeteria or virtually through Zoom. You can find the meeting link for tomorrow’s PTO meeting and the 6:00pm room parent meeting below. The room parent meeting will also offer the option to attend in person or attend virtually. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide childcare during either of these meetings and in the near future for monthly PTO meetings.

We will celebrate the new school year with our incoming kindergarten families at our Kindergarten Meet and Greet this Thursday, August 19th from 6:00-7:00pm. Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, see their classroom and drop off school supplies. Students and families will not have to wear a face covering outside during the event, but will be required to wear a face covering when entering the school. Kindergarten families will also receive their row assignment for student pick-up this Thursday.

1st through 5th grade student supply drop off will be next Tuesday, August 24th from 4:00-5:30pm. Tuesday evening is a brief opportunity for students and their families to drop-off supplies and see the classroom. All visitors to the building will be required to wear a face covering upon entering the school.

A Note from Nurse Carly

I can’t believe we are already getting ready to start the 2021 school year! I hope you all had a wonderful summer.

Dr. Clark has already mentioned that we are going to be a nut-free school again this year. This means all products containing peanuts and tree-nuts will not be permissible. We are also fish free. We take student and staff safety very seriously in regards to allergies. Please be courteous and check your ingredients. If your child brings a lunch that contains nuts to school, they will be provided a school lunch.

While we continue to practice safe guided instructions from the Health Department, we will still be following last year’s health screener and using our guide to determine when to send students home from school that are symptomatic. Please look at both and use those as a guide when determining if your child can come to school. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Any medications to be administered at school require the completion of the dispensing medication form found under optional e-Forms on the parent portal. If your child has a prescription, the label acts as the doctor’s note. However, if your child has over the counter medication, I will need a note from the doctor. In addition to medication, if your child has an action plan (asthma, food allergy), please make sure that we have a new one on file for the school year.

I will be at our supply drop off for medication drop off for the year. If you cannot make that time, please make arrangements to drop off any medications before or on the first day of school. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. My phone number is 314-467-7930 and my email is [email protected]

MOSAIC Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedure along with Bus Routes

The district provides bus transportation to MOSAIC only in the morning. Students who choose to utilize district transportation will ride their neighborhood Mehlville bus to their home school (ex. Bierbaum, Forder, Rogers). From their home school, students will ride a shuttle bus to MOSAIC. Families should review the bus route information for the nearest bus stop to your home.

Below are the bus routes for each individual school:

Beasley and Blades

Students in the Beasley and Blades attendance area will catch the MOSAIC shuttle bus at their home schools. The MOSAIC shuttle bus for Blades students will arrive at Blades’ front parking lot at 8:45am. I would arrive five minutes earlier than 8:45am. Beasley students will catch the MOSAIC shuttle bus also at 8:45am in Beasley’s front parking lot. Plan to arrive a few minutes early as well.

Bierbaum Elementary

Forder Elementary

Hagemann Elementary

Oakville Elementary

Point Elementary

Rogers Elementary

Trautwein Elementary

Wohlwend Elementary

Families do have the option if they chose to drop their child off in the morning for school. Morning arrival is from 8:55-9:10am. Like in the past, families will be assigned a row (K-1 on playground lot, 2-5 on the lower lot) for student pick up in the afternoon. Kindergarten families will receive their lane placement at the kindergarten meet and greet on Thursday, August 19th. All other families will receive their row placement at supply drop off on Tuesday, August 24th.

Please view the video below for MOSAIC’s arrival and dismissal procedures.

A Message from the District

We have Mehlville merch + Setting up your ParentSquare account

Get your Mehlville merch on!

Back by popular demand, we are presenting another opportunity to order Mehlville Spiritwear. Browse our new shop for shirts, hoodies, hats, backpacks and briefcases. Items purchased will be delivered to your school this fall.

 Browse Mehlville Spiritwear.

 Setting up your ParentSquare account
You may have noticed district emails and text messages — including this one! — have been coming from ParentSquare since July 1.  We made the transition from SchoolMessenger to ParentSquare this summer to improve district and school communications. Later today we will invite you to activate your account and set up your preferences. Setting your notification preferences is key to helping staff assigned to multiple schools manage how and where they receive communication. We recorded the video below to show you how to set up your account.

Please note that we are still adding and updating staff in our Student Information System and ParentSquare. We know several of our employees are associated with the wrong schools, and we are working on correcting that. While we work to resolve this, you may want to turn notifications off for schools you are no longer working at. Please watch the video for instructions.

News from School Food & Nutrition Services:

We are looking forward to seeing the students in our cafeterias. Breakfast and lunch meals are free for all students this school year due to a nationwide waiver from the USDA.  Schools will have additional items, such as bottled water students can purchase if they have adequate funds in their meal account.  Funds can be deposited in student meal accounts online through MySchoolBucks.  The cafes also accept cash or checks made payable to the Mehlville School District.  Please note, change will not be given for cash deposits. To view 2021-22 a la carte prices, click HERE.  A la carte items vary by school.

School Food & Nutrition Services has part time positions available for the upcoming school year.  If you enjoy working with kids and only want to work while your children are at school, SFNS has the job for you.  To apply, visit mehlvilleschooldistrict.com, select Employment under Quick Links and apply for the School Food and Nutrition Services Technician 3 hours.

If you have any questions, please contact the SFNS office at 467-5250.

Carpooling

I want to encourage families to consider carpooling this school year. Carpooling reduces the amount of cars on the lot and the time it takes to dismiss.  Please fill out the carpool form listed below by Thursday, August 19th only if you are interested in carpooling. This information will be shared in a PDF on Friday, August 20th through email to those who only filled out this document. Please complete the Carpool form first. Once you have identified a partner family for carpooling, please email our school secretary Mrs. Rooks at [email protected] to share carpooling information. Carpool Form

Before School and After School Care

Families can choose to utilize Y-Care as a before and after school care for your child. Hours for Y-Care are from 6:30am until the beginning of the school day and from the end of the school day until 6:00pm. Y-Care will take place in MOSAIC’s gym. The most convenient way to get to MOSAIC’s gym is to park in our front lot off Will Avenue and take the steps on the north side of the building to the gym doors. Students at MOSAIC can only attend Y-Care at MOSAIC and are not allowed to attend Y-Care in other Mehlville School District schools. You can contact the YMCA at 314-849-9622.

We will also have several local childcare providers transporting students to MOSAIC as well. Please make sure to notify your child care provider if you plan on utilizing their transportation services. Below is a list of child care providers that have committed to providing transportation to and from MOSAIC.

Kinder Care – (314)892-1627 – 4105 Telegraph/Kingswood

You may want to contact your child’s daycare provider if they are not listed above. Again, this is the only provider that committed to providing transportation for your child.

PTO WEEKLY UPDATE

Joke of the week:

Parallel lines have so much in common… it’s a shame they’ll never meet.

Who are we?

A group of parent volunteers working together to enhance the learning experience of our children, provide support to the educators and staff at our school, and strengthen the bonds of our school community.

What do we do?

Have fun and fundraise to provide additional resources to the school to support the education of our children.

Who is welcome?

Everyone! Join us whenever you can! Support can take many forms and we value every one of them.

Our first PTO meeting is TOMORROW, August 17th at 6:30pm in MOSAIC’s school cafeteria. MOSAIC families can also join us virtually via Zoom at each PTO meeting this school year. The link for the August 17th PTO meeting can be found below in the upcoming events section. It is important to note that childcare will not be available at this time for PTO meetings and masks are required inside the building.

MUMS

It’s MUM time! This year our mums are provided by Sunnyview Gardens and Greenhouse, they are 9” mums for $9. They will be available in yellow, red, orange, purple, and white. Order forms can be found on our website mosaic-pto.org, at the PTO meeting tomorrow night, or will come home with each student the first week of school.

We will need volunteers to help distribute the mums the day they come in. Please sign up using the Engagement Committee form found on the PTO website under “Ways to Be Involved,” scroll down or click here

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the PTO if you have any questions: [email protected]

Let’s Get Ready to MINGLE!

The Mosaic Mingle will take place on Friday, August 27th from 6-8pm on the upper parking lot. We will have a couple of food trucks and lots of fun! Everyone is welcome to join us! If you’re interested in volunteering, sign up using the Engagement Committee form found on the PTO website under “Ways to Be Involved,” scroll down or click here

Room Parent Volunteers

Studio Room Parents’ main roles are to help with the 3 studio parties (fall, winter, spring) and to serve on the Teacher Appreciation Week committee (at the beginning of May). They will also help the PTO communicate with studio parents.

The Lead Room Parent chairs the committee for studio parties and coordinates the efforts of the Studio Room Parents.

Please join us right before our General Meeting on TOMORROW, August 17 at 6pm in MOSAIC’s school cafeteria. You can also join us virtually by following this zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/95592762593. It is important to note that childcare will not be available at this time for PTO meetings and masks are required inside the building. Help us make this a fun year for our kids and make our teachers feel appreciated at its end!

If you’re interested but can’t make the meeting, that’s okay! You can sign up using the Engagement Committee form found on the PTO website under “Ways to Be Involved,” scroll down or click here

Event Committees

We are still in need of event leads. If you would like a better understanding of the responsibilities of this role, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

As previously mentioned if you would like to volunteer for any of our events this school year please go to the MOSAIC PTO website at mosaic-pto.org. Under “Ways to Be Involved” or click here. You will find a sign up list of all of the events throughout the school year. Check off as many volunteer jobs as you would like! You will receive more information for your selected events as they approach. We are so grateful for all of our wonderful volunteers!
