October 5, 2020 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

Tomorrow will be an exciting day for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students and staff. We will once again be welcoming these students in our studios for the first time in more than six months. Excited is not even the correct word to use! Amazing! Thrilled! Ecstatic! These words express our feelings as we prepare for tomorrow.

Please take the time to read the important messages below about arrival and dismissal for tomorrow. I have also included important messages from our school counselor, our PTO and other district departments.

A Note from Our School Counselor

October is Bully Prevention Month.  The students do an amazing job of being upstanders and not bystanders.  Lets celebrate World Day of Bully Prevention by wearing blue.  Since we will not be at school Monday, October 5th, wear blue Tuesday or Wednesday to remind ourselves to be kind to one another.

Changes to Grab-and-Go meals beginning Oct. 6

Changes are being made to our free Grab-and-Go meal service as more students return to our buildings. Beginning next week, meals will be available for pick up from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at all district schools on Mondays and at Mehlville High School and Oakville High School only on Tuesdays-Fridays. This change will allow our elementary and middle school cafeteria staff to focus on preparing meals for on-campus students and following our procedures designed to keep students safe during lunch. Wednesday, Oct. 7 will be the final day we are able to offer meal delivery since our bus drivers will be running additional routes.

While meals are free for all children 18 and under living in Mehlville School District, we ask that you please complete the School Meals Pickup Request form each week to help our staff know how many meals to prepare. Menus are available on the School Food and Nutrition Services website

School Hours/Student Arrival/Student Dismissal

MOSAIC’s school hours are 9:10am-4:00pm Tuesday through Friday (Virtual hours for Mondays in the blended model are from 9:00am -2:20pm.) Student arrival begins at 8:55am on the playground parking lot and concludes at 9:10am. Student dismissal begins sharply at 3:55pm. I ask that all families be on MOSAIC’s parking lot before 3:50pm for the safety of students. All families have been assigned a parking row for afternoon dismissal pick up.  K-1 families will pick up their child on the playground parking lot. 2nd-5th grade families will pick up their child on the lower parking lot.

Bus Routes

MOSAIC students have the opportunity to ride a Mehlville school bus to MOSAIC each morning. Parents are required to pick-up their child(ren) in the afternoon for dismissal. MOSAIC Students can access bus transportation at their neighborhood bus stop. The bus will take MOSAIC students to their home school where they will then board a shuttle bus to MOSAIC. Please follow the link below for your family’s neighborhood stop and time.

Below are the bus routes for each individual school:

Beasley students will catch the MOSAIC shuttle bus also at 8:45am in Beasley’s front parking lot. Plan to arrive a few minutes early as well.

September 21, 2020 – Dr. Clark Email

Good Morning MOSAIC Families,

We are excited to see the return of our K-2nd grade students this week beginning tomorrow morning. The teachers have been preparing their studios for the return of their students. Teachers have done a great job creating a learning environment that is safe and establishes space for social distancing while remaining an inviting place for students to learn and grow.

Thank you once again to those who were able to attend last Thursday’s K-2 parent zoom meeting. I shared the safety protocols we will have in place for your child’s return this week. I also shared our student drop off and student pick-up procedures. Please review the attached PowerPoint presentation for information regarding safety and transportation.

September 14, 2020 – Dr. Clark Email

Good Evening MOSAIC Families,

We will welcome our kindergarten through second grade students back to MOSAIC beginning next Tuesday. Dr. Gaines announced last week that K-2 students would begin in a blended model starting on Tuesday, September 22nd. Students with the last names beginning with A-K will attend school on Tuesday and Thursday. Students with last names beginning with L-Z will attend school on Wednesday and Friday. Monday will be a virtual day each week while we are in a blended model similar to what students experienced in the connected model. Of course, Mehlville@Home students will remain 100% virtual during the course of a week.

It has been great keeping all MOSAIC students together, no matter if a family selected Mehlville@Home or if a family has chosen to return to school. As we shift to the blended model next week for our K-2 students, there will also be shifts in student placement. MOSAIC is creating studio bands consisting of two grade levels per band (i.e. K-1, 2-3, 4-5). Kindergarten and first grade students and teachers will be paired together, second and third grades together and fourth and fifth grades together. Starting next week, Ms. Huettenmeyer will fully transition her role from a 1st grade connected teacher to working with the K-1 families that have selected Mehlville@Home for their child. Ms. Meyers will begin working with 2nd and 3rd grade students who have selected Mehlville@Home. Since we are only in a blended model for K-2 at this time, all 4th and 5th grade students who have selected Mehlville@Home will continue to remain with their current teacher in the 100% connected model. Students who are currently with Ms. Meyers in 3rd grade, but did not select Mehlville@Home will transfer to Mrs. Layton’s roster. When the district shifts to the blended model for 3-5 grades, students in 4th and 5th grades who have selected Mehlville@Home will begin working with Mrs. Klang.

We have selected to keep Mehlville@Home at MOSAIC for several reasons. First, this gives us the ability to allow all MOSAIC students, no matter if they are virtual or in person to remain connected to the MOSAIC school community. It also allows us to keep all staff at MOSAIC to work with our students. We are very grateful for these two opportunities. Because three teachers from two grade levels will be working with students from those grade levels in person, we are also able to keep teacher to student ratio small when in-person.

Below are the grade level teams:

Kindergarten/First Grade Band
Mrs. Comer, Mrs. Donaldson, Mr. Fuhrman (Mrs. Huettenmeyer – Virtual)

2nd Grade/3rd Grade
Mrs. Alles, Ms. Daubach, Mrs. Layton (Ms. Meyers – Virtual)

4th Grade/5th Grade
Mrs. Bradley, Ms. Lazzara, Mrs. Werner (Mrs. Klang – Virtual)

I am asking kindergarten through 2nd grade families to please join me Thursday, September 17th at 6pm for my presentation about how blended learning will look at MOSAIC and the protocols we will have in place to keep students and staff safe.

https://zoom.us/j/93208133763

School Hours/Student Arrival/Student Dismissal

Beginning on Monday, September 22nd, MOSAIC’s school hours will be from 9:10am-4:00pm Tuesday through Friday (Virtual hours for Mondays in the blended model are from 9:00am -2:20pm.) Student arrival begins at 8:55am on the playground parking lot. I will be sharing a video describing this procedure later this week along with our dismissal procedures.

Student Lunch Options

The district recently shared that breakfast and lunch is free for all students. I would encourage all our families to take advantage of this opportunity. To be mindful of safety and social distancing protocols, students will be eating their breakfast and lunch in their classrooms. Three lunch choice options will be available each day for students: a warm lunch choice, a sun butter sandwich or turkey sandwich. Each meal will come with the main entrée, two sides, a milk, and a juice. An additional milk or juice costs $.50. Bottled water from the cafeteria costs $.35.

Most importantly, because we are eating lunch in the classrooms, MOSAIC has to shift to a complete peanut and tree nut free building in addition to a fish free school. Parents, please encourage your child not to share foods. Thank you for your cooperation on keeping our students healthy and safe.

MOSAIC Recognition

I would like to encourage our families to submit a MOSAIC Recognition Form to give a shout out to a MOSAIC student or staff member.  I read submissions each day for morning announcements. It is a great way to begin the day!

September 9, 2020 – Dr. Clark Email

Good Afternoon MOSAIC Families,

I would like to thank everyone who attended last night’s PTO meeting. We had great conversations around several topics, including ways to involve families in fun activities lead by the PTO. We also discussed ways PTO can support our school community. I will be sharing the notes from the meeting in a future Monday email. In the meantime, please visit PTO’s new website at mosaic-pto.org. It is an excellent resource for upcoming events, fundraisers and other important information regarding our PTO.

I also want to remind our families that we have our first supply pickup next Tuesday, September 15th from 8am-9am and 3pm-4pm (Kindergarten is this Friday, September 11th). In addition to picking up supplies from your child’s teacher, you also have the opportunity to check out books from MOSAIC’s library. You can bookshop online and select the books you want to read. How cool is that? Please review the attached PDF from Mrs. Nichols for more information on how to check out books.

Thank you,

Scott

Happy Friday MOSAIC Families,

We have come to the end of our first full week of school. Although it is not the same as being in person, I have enjoyed conversing with students in GoogleMeets. Students have also enjoyed seeing their friends once again.

I have a lot of information to share this week. Please be sure to take time to read the email and all its details. Please reach out to me at 314-467-7901 or [email protected] if you have any questions.

To ensure that your child’s experience in GoogleMeet and Virtual Learning is the best as possible, please be sure that your child does not have his or her phone, tablet, toy or gaming device other than their chromebook when on a GoogleMeet. These devices will only cause a distraction to their learning. Thank you for your assistance!

MOSAIC Staff and Student Recognition

Even in these challenging of times, there are many great things happening at MOSAIC and at home with students involved in virtual learning. I want to recognize students, staff and families who are demonstrating the MOSAIC Mindset and doing the right thing. Below is a form for families to fill out to recognize the good work of a MOSAIC staff member, student and/or a MOSAIC family. I will share these recognitions on my daily morning announcements. Let’s hear about all the wonderful things happening!

Supply Pick-Up

Similar to our Chromebook and supply pick-up in August, MOSAIC will begin hosting bi-weekly supply pick-ups providing an opportunity for teachers to get a variety of learning materials to our students. Supply pick-up will occur bi-weekly on Tuesday mornings from 8am-9am and Tuesday afternoons from 3pm-4pm. The first supply pick-up will be on Tuesday, September 15th.  Following supply pick-up dates include September 29th, October 13th and October 27th. Kindergarten will have their first pick up on Friday, September 11th, not September 15th. However, they will follow the rest of the MOSAIC’s schedule following the first pick-up. Supply pick-up will be stationed on our back parking lot underneath the awning. Teachers will provide further information regarding materials in their upcoming weekly newsletters.

In Person Instruction

Starting the week of September 15th, teachers will begin meeting with students once a week in-person during Intervention Time.  Virtual Intervention Time will occur the other four days a week.  Please click on the link below and read the process we will use when students meet in-person with teachers.  In-person groups are small groups of students (no larger than three students at a time) and your teacher will contact you individually offering available dates and times. Please read my attached letter for further information.
