March 1, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Happy Monday MOSAIC Families,

Welcome to a new week and a new month. It is hard to believe that we are in March already. March will prove to be a busy month, even with our Spring Break later this month. Parent/Teacher conferences are during the week of March 15th on an as needed basis. Your child’s teacher will communicate with you if a conference is necessary. Families can also request a conference with their child’s teacher.

Register to vote by March 10 to participate in the April election

Mehlville School District residents have an important item on the April 6, 2021, ballot.  The district is asking voters for a zero tax rate increase bond issue, called Prop S. If passed, Prop S would fund facility projects that improve student safety, and address critical infrastructure needs like restroom renovations, ADA accessibility, and HVAC and roofing replacements without raising the tax rate.

Parents and other residents are encouraged to learn more about Prop S and to vote. If you aren’t already registered to vote, the deadline to register is Wednesday, March 10, 2021. The Missouri Secretary of State’s website has several options to register to vote:

Who can vote?

To register to vote in Missouri, you must be:

  • At least 17 ½ years of age (but you must be 18 by the day of the election to vote)
  • A U.S. Citizen

February 22, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

Isn’t it wonderful to leave the house in the morning with the sun on your face and the birds chirping? The change in weather and warmer temperatures are definitely welcome.  I hope that all the snow will melt away these next few days and colder temperatures are behind us. I know this may not be possible as we have a lot of winter left, but one can hope.

Please take a few moments to read this week’s email blast. I have included important information from our district, our PTO and teachers.

February 16, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

Welcome to what I believe is our first virtual snow day for the district. Thank you to our families, students and staff for pivoting to virtual learning in such a short amount of time. I hope to see everyone in person tomorrow morning, but the future forecast does not look promising. As of now, the forecast is calling for an additional three to six inches of snow from Wednesday morning into Thursday. Please make sure to watch your local news, our district website and various social media platforms for the latest news regarding our plans for tomorrow.

If we continue with virtual learning for all students tomorrow, please note that students who attend STRETCH on Wednesdays will have STRETCH virtually tomorrow. STRETCH students who are in MOSAIC@Home classes will continue to attend STRETCH this Friday.

Please remember to charge your child’s Chromebook this evening just in case. I have my fingers crossed that the next weather system will miss us and we will only see sunlight from this point on. Of course, we know what the groundhog said…

February 8, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Happy Monday MOSAIC Families,

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I also hope everyone is staying warm in this very frigid weather. Daytime highs will hover around the twenty-degree mark all week. Students will go outside for recess if the temperature (including the wind chill) remains above twenty degrees. Be sure to dress your child in warm clothes this week and next.

Please join us tomorrow evening for our February PTO meeting beginning at 6pm. Dr. Gaines will present information about Prop S and its impact on MOSAIC and the school district. We will also have a presentation from our specialists teachers (PE, music, art, library, counselor).

You can learn more about Prop S by reading the information below provided by our district.

How Prop S would impact MOSAIC Elementary School

The Mehlville School District Board of Education voted unanimously at its January meeting to place a zero tax rate increase bond issue measure on the ballot on April 6, 2021. The bond issue, called Proposition S, would fund projects to improve student safety and accessibility and complete deferred maintenance without increasing the tax rate.

If passed, Prop S would fund security entrances at every school; improved accessibility for individuals with disabilities; heating, cooling and ventilation upgrades; restroom renovations and additions; parking lot improvements; roof replacements and other projects.

Prop S would generate $35 million to complete these projects without raising the current tax rate. Voter approval would allow the district to transfer 12 cents of the existing tax rate to address facility needs at all schools within Mehlville School District at no additional cost to the taxpayer.

At MOSAIC, Prop S would fund a front security entrance that includes an exterior and interior door. Visitors are admitted through the exterior door and must check in with a staff member immediately upon entry before gaining access through the interior door to the rest of the school. Additionally, Prop S would fund two elevators to make our building fully accessible.

View the conceptual renderings for an illustration of what the completed projects might look like. Final construction is subject to change based on each project’s engineering and structural analysis.

Visit the Prop S website to see all the projects Prop S would fund and learn how we can complete these projects without raising the tax rate.

February 1, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Happy Monday MOSAIC Families,

A new week, a new month and new possibilities! The students have been doing remarkably well with the transition back to full-time school. The five-day a week schedule is providing consistency to a student’s learning and we are seeing positive outcomes. The teachers continue to work extremely hard to provide the very best for each one of their students. There is a lot to be proud of as we continue to navigate unique challenges this school year.

I would like to thank our families for taking the time to read my email on Friday regarding the changes to our arrival procedures. It seemed to work very well this morning. We had no traffic back-up on Will Avenue and the buses were able to enter and exit the parking lot with ease. Thank you everyone for your cooperation!

Finally, please read the important message below from our district regarding Prop S.

January 25, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

Welcome to our first full week of school of in-person instruction since last March. The students have adjusted well to having all their friends back in class. The students have been doing a great job of practicing social distancing protocols and being safe. All the students, including our students at home have adjusted so well to all the changes they have experienced over the past ten months. Keep up the great work, everyone!

I would like to remind our families of two important items this week. First, please remember to charge your child’s chromebook each evening when they come home from school. Several students are arriving to school with a depleted Chrombook battery. Due to social distancing and limited amount of outlets in classrooms, it is difficult to provide charging stations to numerous students at the same time. The second important item is to have your child dressed according to the weather. Make sure your child has a heavy coat, gloves and hat if necessary. As I look back to previous years, February has traditionally been a very cold month with snow. Let us hope winter is kind to us this year and decides to pass us by with the cold weather.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone that we will be sending your child’s second quarter report card this afternoon through email.

Picture Retake Day

Picture retake day is scheduled for Wednesday, February 3 from 9am-Noon. Students who were not photographed on the original picture day will receive an order form to bring home.

If your child was photographed but you’d like a retake, order forms are available in the school office. If you previously ordered a picture packet and are choosing retakes, please send the packet back to school with your child on retake day.

January 15, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Happy Friday MOSAIC Families,

My weekly email blast is coming earlier than expected. I wanted to share information with all our families before the big return to full in-person instruction next Tuesday. Teachers have taken this week to prepare their classrooms for next Tuesday. They are excited, but also cautious. Teachers want to provide the very best for all our students while keeping them safe. Your child’s safety is and always will be a priority for the MOSAIC staff. I do ask all our families once again to show grace and patience as we our entering what I call our third “first twenty days of school.” As we navigate a pandemic, the MOSAIC staff continues to learn what teaching practices have the best results for our students within the protocols we must follow. We are all learning together!

I mentioned earlier this week, it will be very helpful during morning arrival if all students have their masks on, backpacks in their lap so the child can quickly and safely exit the vehicle. For afternoon dismissal, please be sure to on MOSAIC’s campus before student dismissal at 3:55pm.

Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free each day for our students. MOSAIC will also continue to be a nut free and fish free school. Please keep this in mind when you pack your child’s lunch for the day. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and staff safe.

January 11, 2021 – Dr. Clark Email

Dear MOSAIC Families,

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I have a lot of information to share with you in this week’s email blast. Please take the time to read through the information and contact me if you have any questions.

Dr. Gaines announced on Friday that K-5 students would be returning to five days of in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 19th. We are prepared to welcome back all our students who have chosen in-person learning at MOSAIC. Ms. Huettenmeyer, Ms. Meyers and Mrs. Klang will continue to provide instruction for families who have selected MOSAIC@Home for the second semester.

As MOSAIC comes closer to normal capacity, I ask for our family’s cooperation with arrival and dismissal. We will now have more cars dropping off students in the morning and more families on our parking lots in the afternoon. Both arrival and dismissal procedures will be similar to what we have been doing this school year and in the past. To help arrival go smooth and quick, I ask that all families say their “goodbyes” and have your child’s mask on their face as you pull up to drop off. Backpacks should be easily accessible for your child to make drop off quick. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free each day for our students. MOSAIC will also continue to be a peanut free and fish free school. Please keep this in mind when you pack your child’s lunch for the day. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and staff safe.
